In the midst of the media hype surrounding Zac Efron’s latest movie, “The Iron Claw,” the actor made an appearance on Today donning sunglasses, prompting speculation among viewers. However, Efron clarified the reason for wearing shades indoors during the show, dispelling any assumptions of a fashion statement or eccentric behavior.

During the segment on Wednesday, December 20, 2023, Efron joined his co-stars from “The Iron Claw” — Jeremy Allen White, Harris Dickinson, and Stanley Simons — on Today. He humorously remarked, “I feel weird being in shades,” drawing attention to his eyewear choice.

Given Efron’s significant physical transformation for his role as wrestler Kevin Von Erich in A24’s “The Iron Claw,” which had already garnered attention, some wondered if that had a role in his decision to wear sunglasses on the show.

However, Efron candidly disclosed the real reason for his eyewear, debunking any speculation. Contrary to assumptions of method acting or diva behavior, Efron clarified to Today host Craig Melvin that he was wearing sunglasses due to an eye infection, stating, “No, I’m sorry man… I just have a bit of an eye infection. But I really wanted to be here. It’s such a good movie, and I want to come see you guys and tell everyone about it.”

Despite mentioning the eye infection, Efron didn’t provide specifics regarding its nature or cause.

“The Iron Claw,” hitting theaters on December 22, 2023, delves into the narrative of the Von Erich brothers, prominent pro-wrestlers in the 1980s, navigating through a blend of triumphs and tragedies. Efron’s performance in the film has already generated Oscar buzz, further amplifying anticipation for its release.

Wishing Zac Efron a speedy recovery from his eye infection.
