Having immersed yourself in Shouko Komi’s remarkable odyssey aimed at overcoming social anxiety and nurturing 100 authentic connections, abandoning this journey midway seems unimaginable. Yet, amidst this fervor, a looming question persists: Is Netflix contemplating leaving the story of “Komi Can’t Communicate” unfinished?

The endearing anime adaptation of Tomohito Oda’s beloved manga last graced screens during its second season’s conclusion in June 2022. With over a year having passed since then, devoted fans of Komi-san are left anxiously pondering the fate of a much-anticipated Season 3.

The manga, which initially emerged as a one-shot creation, swiftly gained acclaim as one of the standout comics of 2019, eventually paving the way for an anime rendition. OLM’s announcement of the anime adaptation thrilled fans on May 11, 2021. A 12-episode season aired on TV Tokyo from Oct. 7 to Dec. 23, 2021, subsequently made available globally on Netflix from Oct. 21, 2021, to Jan. 6, 2022.

Given the series’ widespread popularity, Netflix swiftly greenlit a second season in December 2021, even prior to the conclusion of the first. This highly anticipated sequel aired in Japan from April 7 to June 23, 2022, later releasing worldwide on Netflix from April 27 to July 13 of the same year. However, the path forward for Komi Can’t Communicate’s third season seems uncertain.

Has Komi Can’t Communicate Season 3 been shelved?

According to the latest updates, Netflix or OLM, the animation studio, haven’t officially canceled the animated adaptation. Yet, conversely, there’s been no official confirmation of a Season 3 from either Netflix or OLM. As of now, the fate of the series remains in limbo, its future uncertain.

Nevertheless, should production resume, ample source material exists. Season 2 of Komi Can’t Communicate only covers up to Volume 9 or Chapter 129 of the original manga. The last chapter adapted the beginning of Volume 10/Chapter 129 titled “One Year,” indicating the creators’ intention to continue the narrative.

The official Komi Can’t Communicate manga spans 31 volumes, with another slated for release on Jan. 18, 2024, containing a total of 413 chapters, signifying an extensive scope for the anime series. Yet, the possibility looms that production might cease due to lower-than-expected viewership, mirroring the fate of several other anime adaptations on Netflix.

Despite fervent hopes for the series’ revival, its renewal status remains veiled. The Winter 2024 anime lineup has been unveiled, noticeably lacking the inclusion of the series. Therefore, fans must patiently await an official declaration either confirming or discontinuing the continuation of the beloved series.
