WHO expresses concern over arrest of head of Al-Shifa hospital and other medical practitioners

The World Health Organisation has expressed concern over the arrest of Gaza’s Al-Shifa hospital’s director Muhammad Abu Salmiya by the Israeli army

In a statement, the organisation said that the head of the biggest hospital of the Gaza City has been arrested on Friday along with fived other health workers, while they were taking part in a United Nations mission to evacuate the patients.

“Three medical personnel from the Palestine Red Crescent Society and three from the Ministry of Health were detained,” WHO said.

The statement further added that two of the six arrested have been released, however, they do not have any information on the well being of the four remaining detainees, including Salmiya.

The UN agency called for their “legal and human rights to be fully observed during their detention.”

A spokesperson for Israeli army on Saturday revealed that Abu Salmiya was being questioned. The Israeli military said that he is being questioned since he was the head of the hospital, which as per their claims, is sitting atop an “entire terror network.”
