It’s anticipated that Michigan and Ohio State will secure spots in the top four of the initial College Football Playoff rankings set to be unveiled on Tuesday. The impending clash between these two powerhouse teams on November 25 adds even more intensity to their rivalry, especially with the recent sign-stealing allegations against the Michigan program. Ohio State’s last three consecutive losses to Michigan occurred from 1995 to 1997, underscoring the significance of this upcoming matchup for the Big Ten championship.
As for Oklahoma and Texas, they are perilously close to accumulating two losses, a threshold that typically hinders a team’s chances of making it to the College Football Playoff. Oklahoma’s surprising 38-33 loss to Kansas in Week 9 was a major setback. In Week 10, Oklahoma faces off against Oklahoma State, while Texas hosts Kansas State, making their paths to the playoffs increasingly challenging.
The Pac-12 is also displaying signs of internal competition. Washington’s less-than-convincing wins against Arizona State and Stanford raise questions about their playoff potential. Similarly, Oregon cannot afford another loss if they hope to remain in contention. The Pac-12 has a historical tendency to eliminate itself from College Football Playoff consideration through this kind of intra-conference competition.
At this moment, the projection envisions a College Football Playoff lineup featuring Georgia against Ohio State in the Allstate Sugar Bowl, and Michigan against Florida State in the Rose Bowl.
