Since taking the helm in 2019, Kurian has been on a mission to propel Google Cloud’s digital transformation capabilities. Born in Southern India, Kurian’s journey began with a BSEE in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at Princeton University, followed by an MBA from Stanford University Graduate School of Business. His career kicked off with McKinsey & Company, where he served clients in software, telecommunications, and financial services across London and Brussels.


Kurian’s significant tenure at Oracle, spanning over two decades, saw him as the President of Product Development. Managing a colossal 35,000-person software development team across 30 countries, he played a crucial role in generating annual revenues of approximately US$32 billion, with US$5.5 billion attributed to the cloud. However, in 2018, he resigned amid reported disagreements with Oracle founder Larry Ellison on the company’s cloud strategy.

A notable figure in the tech industry, Kurian was the 18th highest-paid man in the US in 2010 and the fifth highest-paid tech executive that year. As of 2023, he ranks among the wealthiest business executives globally, receiving the 2023 Lifetime Achievement award from the American Society of Engineers of Indian Origin.

Upon joining Google Cloud, Kurian focused initially on selling G Suite applications and embarked on a mission to establish foundational AI models for diverse use cases. The company, under his guidance, has become a driving force in advancing generative AI worldwide, offering consulting services to modernize core systems and build cloud-native applications. Kurian emphasizes Google Cloud’s commitment to enhancing data analytics efficiency and ensuring robust cybersecurity measures.

Throughout 2023, Google Cloud has unveiled new customers, partners, and product innovations, reinforcing its dedication to empowering businesses, governments, and users with generative AI and cutting-edge cloud technologies.
