Some of the most prominent figures in Diddy’s romantic history include Jennifer Lopez, Cassie, and Yung Miami. However, it’s his decade-long relationship with the late Kim Porter, the mother of three of his seven biological children, that left the deepest emotional impact on him.
Diddy and Porter, the former model, were in a relationship from 1993 to 2007, enduring multiple separations believed to be attributed to Diddy’s infidelity, including his high-profile involvement with Lopez. Ultimately, they parted ways for good in ’07. Unexpectedly, in 2018, Porter passed away from pneumonia, a revelation brought forward by NBC in 2019. The coroner’s report later confirmed that Porter’s cause of death was lobar pneumonia, classified as natural.
Given their extensive history and shared parenthood, Diddy struggled immensely with her passing. A source told Us Weekly, “Diddy is inconsolable… Kim’s passing has turned his life upside down.” The source went on to emphasize that although the parents didn’t always agree on matters, their love for their children and the profound respect they held for each other surpassed any conflicts they faced. However, within their relationship, the celebrated entrepreneur had at one point pushed Porter to her limits, leading her to make a resolute decision about their connection.
In 2007, Kim Porter candidly discussed her reasons for ending her relationship with Diddy once and for all in an interview with Essence. While she addressed various public issues, such as his reluctance to marry and fathering a child outside of their relationship while she was carrying their twins, Porter seemed particularly troubled by his consistent disregard for her feelings. She stated, “I left because at this point in my life I want something different for myself… I invested ten years, I have children, and I’ve always stood by him. But now it’s time for me and what I want to do for Kim.”
Following the conclusion of her relationship with Diddy, Porter made a public announcement about their separation. She shared on “Insider” (via CBS), “After 10 years, I have decided to end my on-again, off-again relationship with Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs.” Porter also expressed that her decision was influenced by her desire to arrive at a mutually beneficial resolution, not just for herself, but for Diddy and their children. She added, “I look forward to moving on with my life and my career, and wish him prosperity, health and happiness in life and in love.”
Despite Diddy’s acknowledgment that he wishes he had treated Kim Porter better during their relationship, he remains hopeful about finding love in the future. He believes that Porter would want him to be loved and has chosen to take his time. He expressed on the “Luv2Seelf” podcast, “I’m not going to rush into something… I want to get my soul snatched. That’s what it’s going to take. Just a genuinely — love is really real.”
Diddy has been linked romantically to various women, most notably Yung Miami (Caresha Brownlee). Although he mentioned in the interview that he wasn’t necessarily in love at the time, their relationship seemed to be a subject of much discussion among their fans. Unfortunately, they have since parted ways, with Yung Miami stating, “That’s not my man… We had our own situation, I’m not gonna put a title on it.” She added, “We were together every day at one point. He supported me, I supported him. I’ll let the internet call it whatever they want to call it.”
