Stephen King reveals whether or not Netflix’s ‘3 Body Problem’ is a problem or not

Stephen King has once again shared his thoughts on a new Netflix series, this time weighing in on “3 Body Problem,” which debuted on the streaming platform in March 2024. Adapted from the Hugo Award-winning Chinese sci-fi novel of the same name, the series delves into the complexities of humanity’s first encounter with an alien species across several generations. With heavyweight creators David Benioff and D. B. Weiss, known for their work on “Game of Thrones,” at the helm, and featuring familiar faces from the Thrones universe such as Liam Cunningham and John Bradley, “3 Body Problem” promises a blend of gravitas and intellectual exploration akin to its predecessor.

King’s assessment of the series contrasts with some mixed reviews it received on platforms like Rotten Tomatoes. While one review acknowledged the compelling narrative but criticized its execution as mediocre and occasionally dull, King hailed it as “extraordinary science fiction” in a recent post on X. He particularly praised its chilling and awe-inspiring depiction of “first contact” with alien beings, highlighting its sprawling, thought-provoking, and immersive storytelling.

However, not all viewers share King’s enthusiasm. Some, like the commenter Maggieview, found the series confusing and superfluous, leading to disengagement before its conclusion. While stopping short of branding it one of the worst series of the decade, as suggested by another viewer named Tarana, many viewers echo Maggieview’s sentiment of disappointment with “3 Body Problem.”

Despite the differing opinions, the series remains available for streaming on Netflix, inviting audiences to form their own conclusions about its merits and shortcomings. As always, when it comes to entertainment, individual tastes and preferences ultimately dictate one’s enjoyment of a particular show or film.
