Jimmy Buffett, an American musician best known for the classic song “Margaritaville” from 1977, has passed away at age 76. A statement on his website stated, “Jimmy passed away peacefully on the night of September 1st surrounded by his family, friends, music, and dogs.” “Until his last breath, he lived his life like a song, and he will be sorely missed by many.” As of this writing, the cause of death has not been disclosed.
Buffett passed away just a few months after the legendary musician was forced to cancel a show in South Carolina because of an unexpected hospitalisation. He said on Twitter that he had to stop in Boston for a checkup but ended up returning there to deal with some urgent matters. Buffett gave an update a few days later, writing on Facebook that he had been discharged from the hospital and would be spending time with his loved ones. We’ll look at the when and where of shows after I get in shape, he added.
Buffett would eventually temporarily take the stage again, even pulling off a surprise appearance at a concert in Rhode Island back in July, according to USA Today.
