At least 52 were killed and dozens were wounded in southwest Pakistan on Friday, in what authorities believed to be a suicide attack at a religious procession.
The explosion occurred in the Mastung district of the restive Balochistan province, as people celebrated the birthday of Prophet Mohammed, as per the information minister of the province Jan Achakzai told CNN.
Balochistan is the country’s largest province by area, and has been experiencing insurgency by separatists, who demand independence from the country, as they claim that the state has been exploiting the region’s mineral resources.
Meanwhile, a separate blast took place in Peshawar city in the northwest of Pakistan, during Friday prayers at a mosque. The explosion reportedly killed two and injured eleven.
No group has claimed the responsibility for the explosion in Mastung.
