Ocasio-Cortez calls on president Biden to take responsibility for construction of wall on southern border

Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez issued a statement on Thursday, wherein she condemned the Biden administration for waiving off 26 federal laws, which will allow the construction of wall at the country’s border in Texas.

“The Biden administration was not required to expand construction of the border wall – and they certainly were not required to waive several environmental laws to expedite the building,” stated the congresswoman in her statement. She added that the president needs to take responsibility for his decision and reverse the course.

The waived environmental laws will expedite the construction of barriers in Starr County, Texas, which is a densely trafficked entry point, along the southern border of the states, as noted by the Department of Homeland Security. As per the reports by Associated Press, around 245,000 immigrants have illegally entered the country in this fiscal year.

During a press conference, the president defended his decision of the construction of the wall. He insisted that he tried to get the fund reappropriated but there was nothing he could have done to stop it.

The New York congresswoman said that the country needs to reevaluate the root of migration and how policy affects Latin America. She said the country needs to invest in meaningful immigration reforms.
