Representative Nancy Mace announced on Sunday that she intends to support Rep. Jim Jordan in his run for speakership. She was one of the eight Republicans to voted against former speaker Kevin McCarthy for his removal on Tuesday last week.
“I will tell you today, I am going to be supporting Jim Jordan for Speaker for a number of reasons,” stated Mace in an interview on CBS’s ‘Face the Nation’. She listed the reasons as “his work values, his work ethic, his ability to just run circles around everyone with regards to policy and pushing forward.”
She continued that they are required to work for the American people and make them their priority by moving the country forward in a positive way. And she believes that Jordan will bring that to the table.
Speaking of voting against McCarthy, Mace claimed that the former speaker made promises to her regarding support of women’s issues, which weren’t kept as a speaker.
Jordan, a founding member of the hard-line House Freedom Caucus, announced his bid for the speakership along with with House Majority Leader Steve Scalise, McCarthy’s longtime No. 2.
House Republicans are expected to meet on Tuesday to try and find consensus on a candidate that the bag the majority of votes. A full House vote to fill the position is expected Wednesday.
