Meghan Markle’s father, Thomas Markle Sr., has never shied away from expressing his thoughts, especially regarding his daughter’s marriage to Prince Harry. Their once warm relationship took a turn, despite their early close bond. As a child, Meghan often accompanied Thomas on TV sets, cherishing moments when she’d see her father’s name in the credits. However, something shifted.
The turning point wasn’t Meghan’s secret romance with Prince Harry in 2016, but rather a scandal in 2018 leading up to her royal wedding. Thomas was caught staging photos of himself, which led to a strained relationship. He declined attending the wedding, and since then, he hasn’t held back his opinions on their marriage.
Thomas has made numerous attempts to reach out to Meghan, including public pleas for forgiveness. In July 2018, he expressed remorse and a desire to reconcile, but his plea was met with silence. Fast forward to September 2023, Thomas sat down with “Good Morning Britain” to discuss how he believes Meghan has changed negatively over the years. He remarked, “I never saw the kind of woman she turned into. I am shocked. She is not the person I knew as my daughter.” He also commented on the dynamic of Meghan’s influence on Harry.
Despite his ongoing efforts, Thomas’s relationship with Meghan remains strained. His desire to meet his grandchildren, Archie and Lilibet, has also gone unfulfilled. This has caused Thomas considerable heartbreak, and he expressed feeling unjustly denied the right to see them. Although he mentioned the possibility of legal action, he emphasized that he didn’t want to resort to that route, asserting that he believes he’s done nothing wrong. Nevertheless, the mere mention of a potential lawsuit adds further tension to an already complicated situation for Meghan and Harry.
