Kyle Richards, a star of “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills,” recently shared candid insights into her marriage with Mauricio Umansky. During an episode preview, she confided in her friend and fellow cast member, Dorit Kemsley, about needing some space and freedom from her husband.
Kemsley noted a perceived shift in Richards’ Instagram presence, where she appeared to be spending more time apart from Umansky. This prompted her to ask, “I mean, have you had any thoughts recently? Like do you think you would not end up with Mo?”
To this, Richards responded that she indeed felt the need for “a little freedom and some space.” However, she admitted during a later interview that she wasn’t thrilled with the on-camera questions from Kemsley, stating that she wasn’t ready to address these matters in public.
The reality star revealed that she was not in a happy state that day and emphasized that she would have preferred discussing such topics off-camera. Richards’ relationship with Umansky, whom she married in January 1996 after meeting in 1994, has seen its share of ups and downs. They share daughters Alexia, Sophia, and Portia, as well as Farrah Brittany from Kyle’s first marriage.
In July, it was reported that Richards and Umansky had separated after 27 years of marriage. In a joint statement, they denied divorce rumors but acknowledged having a challenging year.
Speaking to Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos during the interview, Richards expressed that this period had been tough and marked uncharted territory for her. However, she stressed that it was an amicable separation, but the focus remained on their daughters, who had been supportive. She mentioned the difficulties of navigating a public separation, where fans often seek answers and create their own narratives due to the lack of a complete explanation.
In the wake of their separation, Richards received messages from fans expressing their dismay and skepticism about true love. In response, Kelly Ripa came to her defense, reminding people that it’s not about them and encouraging them to grow up.
Umansky also addressed the couple’s challenging times, emphasizing that they are not yet throwing in the towel and are committed to working through their difficulties. He acknowledged the scrutiny they face in the public eye and defended his wife against the intense judgment she experiences. He described her as an amazing human and his best friend who does not deserve the extent of scrutiny she receives.
The couple’s ongoing journey demonstrates the complexities of maintaining a long-term marriage, especially in the public eye, as they work through the challenges they face together.
