Jessica Simpson celebrated her sixth anniversary of sobriety with an unrecognisable picture from her past.

She took to her Instagram Story to share a post, which she had earlier shared on November 1, 2021, of herself four years prior to that – her first days of being sober.

During turbulent her relationship with singer-songwriter John Mayer, the multi-hyphenate first developed a dependency on alcohol to soothe her nerves, which she had mentioned in her memoir ‘Open Book’ released in 2020. A combination of unresolved childhood trauma and stress over her career kept her reaching out for the bottle.

In her memoir, she had detailed that prior to the day she quit drinking, she was drinking while preparing for Halloween party she and her husband Eric Johnson were hosting. On that day, she had her first drink before 7.30 am. When she was asked by her husband if she wanted to join him in getting their children dressed up, she realised she was in no condition to help.

She wrote in her book, “I was terrified of letting them see me in that shape… I am ashamed to say that I don’t know who got them into their costumes that night.”

The next morning, Simpsons gathered her close friends together and told them she needed to change.
