Israeli-owned ship attacked by Iranian drone in Indian Ocean: US Officials

A container ship owned by an Israeli billionaire came under attack by Iranian drones in Indian Ocean, as Israel wages war with Hamas in Gaza, an American defense official said Saturday.

The attack on Friday on the CMA CGM Symi comes as the global shipping increasingly finds itself targeted in the weeks long war, which is causing tension of erupting into a wider regional conflict, despite the temporary truce deal has been signed with Hamas releasing Israeli hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners held by Israel.

The defense official, in a conversation with The Associated Press, revealed that the done exploded, causing damages to the ship, but did not injure any of its crew members. It detailed that the Malta-flagged vessel was suspected to have been targeted by a triangle-shaped, bomb-carrying Shahed-136 drones while being in the international waters.

As recently as Saturday, the same drones were used by Russia in a largest drone attack on Kyiv, since the beginning of invasion on Ukraine.
