How many hostages and prisoners are released up till now in Gaza?


Today has marked the third day in the four day truce between Hamas and Israel, which involved freeing the hostages held by Hamas in return for the release of Palestinian prisoners from Israeli jail.

Earlier today, Hamas released a total of 14 Israelis and three foreign nationals, and it was later confirmed by Israeli prison service that it has released 39 Palestinians prisoners.

It came a day after 13 Israeli hostages were freed in return for 39 Palestinian prisoners. On Friday, the first day of truce, Hamas freed 24 hostages, which included 13 Israelis, 10 Thais, and 1 citizen of Philippines, again in return of 39 Palestinian prisoners.


This brings the total number of hostages released during the window to 54, which included 40 Israelis, and number of Palestinian prisoners freed are 117.

As per the terms of deal, in four days time, Hamas is required to release 50 Israeli hostages in exchange for 150 Palestinian prisoners.

Earlier in October, two Americans and two Israeli hostages were also released, while an Israeli soldier was freed during ground operation in Gaza.
