American supernatural horror comedy film Haunted Mansion was released in 2023 and was directed by Justin Simien from a script by Katie Dippold. LaKeith Stanfield, Tiffany Haddish, Owen Wilson, Danny DeVito, Rosario Dawson, Dan Levy, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Jared Leto are among the actors who appear in the movie. It is the second cinematic film version of Walt Disney’s theme park attraction The Haunted Mansion, following the 2003 movie of the same name, and was made by Walt Disney Pictures and Rideback. In the movie, Travis (Chase W. Dillon) and Gabbie (Dawson) seek the services of a group (Stanfield, Haddish, Wilson, and DeVito) to exorcise their home and exterminate the spirits around them.
Guillermo del Toro, who wanted to write and produce the reboot adaption based on the Haunted Mansion, announced the film would take place in a heightened reality rather than in a real-world environment in July 2010, which marked the beginning of the planning process. In July 2013, Del Toro lost his position as the project’s director. A new script by Dippold will be written for Disney’s Haunted Mansion, which the studio will release in August 2020 after spending years in development hell. Simien agreed to take on the directing duties by April 2021, and three months later, his appointment was formally announced. From July through October, the cast was formally revealed; the next year, more actors were added. On a $150 million budget, principal photography ran from the middle of October 2021 through the end of February 2022.
On July 15, 2023, the Haunted Mansion had its debut at Disneyland in Anaheim, California. Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures then released the film across the country on July 28. The movie earned $101 million globally and garnered mixed reviews from reviewers, earning the moniker “box office bomb.”
