The period drama series “King and Conqueror,” produced by CBS Studios, features Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and James Norton in the lead roles. The series is set in the 11th century and revolves around the story of Harold, Earl of Wessex, portrayed by James Norton, and William, Duke of Normandy, played by Nikolaj Coster-Waldau. These two men, initially allies without aspirations for the British throne, are drawn into a war for the crown due to unforeseen circumstances and personal obsessions. Their destinies collide at the Battle of Hastings in 1066.
The eight-episode series is created and written by Michael Robert Johnson, known for his work on “Sherlock Holmes.” Baltasar Kormákur, renowned for “Everest,” will direct the premiere episode and serve as an executive producer for the series. The production will commence in Iceland next year.
The show has already attracted attention from the BBC, which has acquired broadcasting rights for the series on BBC One and BBC iPlayer in the UK. Paramount Global Content Distribution will handle distribution outside the UK market.
The senior VP of international co-productions and development at CBS Studios praised the series for its innovative approach, world-class talent, and contemporary relevance, highlighting Michael’s scripts for offering a fresh take on a historical narrative while remaining pertinent in modern times.
