After the underwhelming conclusion of Game of Thrones, many of us were prepared to bid farewell to the world of Westeros. However, House of the Dragon rekindled our interest, demonstrating that there was still vitality in the Game of Thrones universe. Excitingly, HBO has even more spin-offs in the pipeline for its premier fantasy series. This includes the prequel “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight,” which is rumored to have commenced its search for a new cast for the Game of Thrones universe.
While there hasn’t been official confirmation yet (so it’s wise to approach this news with a bit of skepticism), the evidence is compelling. According to fans on Twitter, HBO has purportedly issued a casting call for actors who seem uncannily like characters from the “Tales of Dunk and Egg,” upon which “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” is based.
The Twitter account @westerosies, now on X (formerly known as Twitter), relayed this casting call, highlighting the network’s specific requirements. This included a young boy, aged 9-10, whose character possesses a “neutral English accent” and is described as “white with blue/green eyes and pale skin.”
Furthermore, they are looking for an actor standing at least 6’4 (quite tall indeed) to portray a robust soldier who is “perceptive and thoughtful” with “a humble disposition.”
It’s highly likely that the latter description pertains to Ser Duncan the Tall, often referred to as ‘Dunk’, while the former seems to be alluding to a young Aegon V Targaryen, known as ‘Egg’ — the central figures from George R. R. Martin’s novelette. A Reddit user, u/Dreamtrain, commented on a thread discussing the rumored casting, stating, “Yeah, those descriptions scream Aegon and Duncan the Tall.”
We’re inclined to agree. After all, it’s not every day that an HBO series requires a soldier of such towering stature. In the off chance that the esteemed network is developing another show with two characters coincidentally similar to Dunk and Egg, we’d be quite surprised.
Here are the comprehensive character descriptions:
1. “Boy — aged 9-10. Physically small, the character is wise beyond his years, confident and witty. He has a neutral English accent and is white with blue/green eyes and pale skin. Must be under 4’6 and at least 9 years old by March 2024 for licensing.”
2. “Soldier — aged 18-25. The soldier is very tall and physically strong. He has a humble disposition and is perceptive and thoughtful. Any ethnicity. Must be at least 6’4.”
For now, all we can be certain of is that we’ll have to wait for further information. However, the signs seem to point in favor of this exciting development, as none of the other spin-offs in development (The Sea Snake, Snow, Ten Thousand Ships, The Golden Empire) seem to align with these character descriptions. In the meantime, we can look forward to the second season of House of the Dragon.
