Brooke Shields, known for her guest appearance on the classic sitcom Friends, recently shared an amusing anecdote about her time on the show. Shields revealed that her scene with Matt LeBlanc as Joey led to her then-boyfriend, tennis legend Andre Agassi, storming out of the recording.

In the episode titled “The One After The Super Bowl” from Season 2, Shields portrayed Erika, a character infatuated with Joey, whom she believes to be a genius. The scene in question involved Erika licking Joey’s fingers, expressing her admiration for the supposed genius. Shields explained that her boyfriend, Agassi, had a somewhat “petulant” reaction to witnessing this on-set romantic interaction.

In an interview with The New Yorker, Shields recounted the incident, stating, “It was petulant behavior… In the scene, I’m supposed to lick Joey’s fingers, because they’re the hands of a genius, and I want to devour them, and I’m a nut. He was cute — he was, like, ‘I’ve washed my hands, and they’re all clean’. I was like, ‘I had a mint’.”

She went on to describe how Agassi, present in the audience to support her, walked out, feeling embarrassed by the on-screen interaction. Shields recalled, “Andre was in the audience supporting me, and he stormed out. He said, ‘Everybody’s making fun of me. You made a fool of me by that behavior’. I’m like, ‘It’s comedy! What is the matter with you?’”

Despite Agassi’s initial reaction, Shields’ and LeBlanc’s performances in the memorable episode contributed to the lasting appeal of Friends.
