Eslabon Armado’s ‘Ella Baila Sola’: The Anthem Behind Música Mexicana’s Chart-Topping Year

In February, Pedro Tovar, the frontman of Eslabon Armado, shared a snippet of himself vibing to their song “Ella Baila Sola” in his car. This teaser, featuring a verse from Peso Pluma, ignited a significant response.

Prompted by this clip, Eslabon’s label, Del Records, launched an extensive promotional campaign that propelled the song to an unprecedented No. 4 spot on the Billboard Hot 100. This achievement marked the first time a regional Mexican song had reached the Top 10 in the chart’s history, signaling a significant moment for música Mexicana on a global scale.

Eslabon Armado had been carving their distinctive path since their debut album, “Tu Veneno Mortal,” in 2020, which introduced the streaming hit “Con Tus Besos.” Despite Pedro and his brother Brian Tovar being under 18 at the time, they were already recognized as innovators in the evolution of regional Mexican music. Managed by their mother, Nelly, Eslabon was gaining acclaim within the music landscape.

Pedro crafted the ballad, blending the traditional corrido style with contemporary elements, during a creative session for their latest record, “Desvelado.” Starting with a chorus about pointing out a stunning girl across the dance floor, the song evolved into a duet.

The collaboration with Peso Pluma was initiated months earlier, with George Prajin, Peso’s manager and label head, pitching him to collaborate with artists under Del Records. Pedro personally sang “Ella Baila Sola” to Peso over the phone, captivating him with the catchy hook. This led to a studio session with Ernesto Fernandez at Prajin’s Parlay Studioz, where they recorded and co-produced the song.

The completion of the track led to Del Records’ production of a viral music video, shot at a masquerade-themed ball in Beverly Hills, showcasing their knack for short-form content favored by Gen Z. Leveraging their substantial YouTube presence and strategic outreach to TikTok influencers, the song rapidly gained momentum, being featured in almost 5 million videos.

Beyond social media, both Eslabon Armado and Peso Pluma were involved in groundbreaking TV appearances on shows like “Good Morning America” and “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.” The song, “Ella Baila Sola,” earned a remarkable 21 times platinum certification in the U.S. by the RIAA in July, solidifying its massive success.

Amidst their skyrocketing triumph, Pedro maintains a grounded perspective, emphasizing the importance of consistent quality and staying level-headed in their creative endeavors. Negotiations between German Barajas from Del Records and Prajin Music Group secured the song’s use for career-launching campaigns like Eslabon Armado’s partnership with Ford.

Despite the overwhelming success, Pedro remains focused on continuing to create remarkable music, emphasizing the importance of this ongoing journey in their musical evolution.
