Eric Tan and David Newton Join Lightning International, Assume Expanded Roles at ATF


Lightning International, a content distribution and solutions company based in Hong Kong and the U.K., is gearing up for expansion ahead of the upcoming Asia TV Forum & Market (ATF) in Singapore by augmenting its workforce.

The company has brought Eric Tan on board as the new director of content sales Asia. In this role, Tan will oversee all aspects of channel and content distribution. With a background in the telecommunications and broadcasting industries, Tan brings experience from previous roles at Singtel, Da Vinci Learning, and Sony Pictures Entertainment Networks Asia. He will operate from Singapore, anchoring Lightning International’s presence in the region.

Additionally, David Newton joins the team as the director of business strategy, tasked with steering Lightning’s business direction and growth trajectory. Newton brings a wealth of experience, having held finance director positions at Reuters and the Financial Times, and served as CFO at LexisNexis and Haymarket Media Asia.

Desmond Chung is another recent addition to Lightning, appointed as the head of marketing & communications. Chung’s role is pivotal in amplifying the company’s voice and enhancing brand awareness. With an extensive background in communications, Chung has worked with renowned entities such as Turner, Fox, Genting Hong Kong, and CASBAA.

James Ross, CEO of Lightning International, expressed enthusiasm about the new hires, highlighting their deep-rooted expertise in the broadcasting and media industries. He emphasized their significance in bolstering Lightning’s growth trajectory in the future.

Lightning International, acquired earlier this year by AsiaSat, holds licenses for a diverse catalog of programming, including finished shows and formats. The company manages the distribution of over a dozen channels such as Action Hollywood Movies, Concerto TV, Docsville, GB News, Globetrotter, Kartoon Channel!, LFCTV, NewsWorld, NOW 70s, NOW 80s, NOW Rock, People & Planet, Pet Club TV, Pulse Documentaries, RCM, TRACE Urban, TRACE Sports Stars, and more.

The Asia TV Forum & Market (ATF) commences with a series of conferences, seminars, and presentations on the first day, followed by a focus on the trade show and rights market from Wednesday to Friday.
