Taylor Sheridan’s immensely popular neo-Western series, Yellowstone, recently garnered a whole new wave of fans following a successful television broadcast of its first season on CBS.
This free-to-air broadcast, set to continue with the second season, might have been so well-received that you now find yourself craving something to dive into between Yellowstone’s Sunday airings. So, are there any other Yellowstone-related properties out there for you to indulge in? And if so, where can you find them?
Does ‘Yellowstone’ have a prequel?
You’re in luck! Yellowstone not only has one prequel series but two – 1883 and 1923. Both of these tie-ins to the Yellowstone universe follow earlier generations of the Dutton family as they navigate the unique challenges of their respective eras in American history.
As for the order in which you should watch them, we’d recommend going by their release dates – 1883 made its debut in 2021, followed by 1923 in 2022. This not only aligns with the order of release but also mirrors the chronological progression of the prequels.
Additionally, it’s worth noting that the prequels feature some heavyweight talent. 1883 boasts performances by Tim McGraw, Sam Elliott, and Faith Hill, while 1923 showcases industry icons Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren, breathing life into a generation of Duttons navigating the challenges of the Great Depression.
While it remains to be seen whether these prequels will eventually be made available for free-to-air broadcast, you can fortunately indulge in them on Paramount Plus, where they’re available for binge-watching.
