Developers Address Softlock Issue in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, Solution Underway

In recent updates surrounding Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, Game Freak has acknowledged and is actively working on rectifying a couple of significant bugs within the game’s latest expansion released in December. The DLC introduced new areas and Pokemon but unfortunately accompanied a few technical issues that could impact players if not approached cautiously.

Two prominent glitches have been identified in this expansion. The first involves Pokemon Inkay, where using a Rare Candy or Experience Candy on the creature before reaching level 30 might lead to a softlock situation. After the level-up message, there’s a chance that subsequent button inputs will no longer register, causing players to be stuck.

The second bug revolves around TM 223 Metal Sound’s crafting materials. One of the components needed to craft this item is only available from Shieldon, a Pokemon exclusive to Pokemon Violet. This restricts players of Pokemon Scarlet from obtaining the necessary material to craft the TM and teach their Pokemon the respective attack.

Acknowledging these issues, Nintendo and Game Freak have announced their intent to release a patch addressing these bugs after late January 2024. This patch aims to resolve the softlock scenario with Inkay and ensure players of Pokemon Scarlet can acquire the missing TM crafting material. To mitigate the inconvenience, players will also receive the TM as a Mystery Gift before the patch release, serving as a temporary solution until the update is implemented.

The December expansion, titled Pokemon Scarlet and Violet’s Indigo Disk DLC, significantly expanded the game world. It reintroduced numerous pocket monsters, including starters from every mainline game, and introduced new creatures such as the Paradox Forms of select older Pokemon. Additionally, the DLC allowed players to capture Legendary Pokemon from previous games, including Groudon, Lugia, and Zekrom. Notably, players can now fully fly while riding Koraidon and Moraidon, enabling extended aerial exploration across the three primary areas of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.
