In Week 13 of the 2023 college football season, the regular season concluded for most teams, setting the stage for upcoming conference championship games that will significantly impact the finalization of the College Football Playoff (CFP) lineup.

The recent release of the CFP committee’s rankings sheds light on the top 25 teams nationally following Week 13, raising anticipation for the imminent clarity in the playoff picture.

As of the fifth poll in 2023, the College Football Playoff rankings showcase the four leading CFP teams. In the previous week, the top four comprised Georgia, Ohio State, Michigan, and Washington, in that specific order.

However, a thrilling and pivotal win by Michigan over Ohio State caused a noteworthy upheaval in the rankings, resulting in the Buckeyes dropping out of the coveted top four spots.

While Georgia maintained their undefeated streak by defeating Georgia Tech with a 31-23 victory, Washington held their ground against a potential upset from Washington State, clinching a victory in the Apple Cup with a decisive game-winning field goal courtesy of kicker Grady Gross.

The loss for Ohio State turned into a gain for Florida State, as the Seminoles continued their undefeated run with a significant win against Florida. This win has positioned Florida State as a contender for a top-four position, setting the stage for their clash against Louisville in the upcoming ACC Championship Game.
