Bella Hadid, the renowned supermodel of Palestinian heritage, has broken her silence on the Israel-Hamas conflict, speaking out against the violence and advocating for peace. Her heartfelt message addressed the suffering endured by innocent lives and families over decades due to the ongoing conflict.
In her recent Instagram post, Bella Hadid began by apologizing for her recent silence on the matter. She highlighted the deep-seated suffering that has persisted for years, culminating in the devastating events of the past two weeks, which drew the world’s attention to the conflict once more.
Bella Hadid wrote, “I have yet to find the ideal words for this deeply intricate and horrific past 2 weeks, weeks that have turned the world’s attention back towards a situation that has been taking innocent lives and affecting families for decades. I have much to say, but for today, I will keep it short.”
Since the outbreak of violence, Bella Hadid has faced an onslaught of death threats daily, and her family has felt their safety to be at risk. She addressed this in her post, saying, “I’ve been sent hundreds of death threats daily, my phone number has been leaked, and my family has felt to be in danger. But I cannot be silenced any longer. Fear is not an option. The people and children of Palestine, especially in Gaza, cannot afford our silence. We are not brave – they are.”
Bella Hadid unequivocally condemned terrorist attacks on civilians, irrespective of their nationality, underlining the importance of protecting women and children. She passionately advocated for the “Free Palestine” movement, challenging harmful and inaccurate stereotypes that often portray Palestinians as terrorists.
In her Instagram post, Bella Hadid also shared a glimpse of her family’s history, detailing their experiences as refugees who were forced to leave their homes due to settler invasions and violence against Palestinian communities. She wrote, “My heart is bleeding with pain from the trauma I am seeing unfold, as well as the generational trauma of my Palestinian blood. Seeing the aftermath from the airstrikes in Gaza, I mourn with all the mothers who have lost children and the children who cry alone, all the lost fathers, brothers, sisters, uncles, aunties, friends that will never again walk this earth.”
Bella Hadid concluded her message with a call for immediate action to address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. She emphasized that many are suffering due to a lack of access to clean water, power for hospitals, and adequate medical care. Her statement reflects the growing international concern for the people of Palestine and a plea for a peaceful resolution to the ongoing conflict.
