Kadokawa’s Sneaker Bunko imprint announced on October 18 that the Chinese-animated series adaptation of Kaisei Enomoto’s “A Herbivorous Dragon of 5,000 Years Gets Unfairly Villainized” novel series is confirmed to receive a second season. The first season, produced by LAN Studio, made its debut on bilibili in July 2022. Subsequently, bilibili began streaming the series with English subtitles in August of the same year. The Japanese-dubbed version premiered on January 6 on the AT-X channel and was also broadcasted on Tokyo MX and BS Fuji.
Crunchyroll is another platform where fans can enjoy the series. Here’s a brief overview of the plot: In order to protect her village from the demon king, Reiko strikes a deal with a 5,000-year-old dragon, offering herself in exchange for his assistance. However, this fire-breathing creature has a surprising quirk—he’s a vegetarian and a bit of a pushover. Together, they embark on a quest to vanquish the demon king. While claiming to be the dragon’s disciple and thus able to tap into his boundless powers, Reiko wonders if her newfound strength truly comes from him.
The novel’s author, Kaisei, initially posted the story on the “Shōsetsuka ni Narō” website in June 2017, with the last chapter being published in June 2020. Subsequently, Kadokawa started publishing the novels with illustrations by Syugao in February 2018, releasing the third volume in October 2019. A manga adaptation by Kōichi Muro was serialized in Square Enix’s Gangan Joker magazine from 2018 to 2019. The fifth and final compiled volume of the manga was published in March 2020.
